Ontario's 144 municipalities have been given a seven month window to make a decision about fair and friendly elections.
They can choose to stick with the current voting system for the next round of municipal elections in 2018. That would be a vote for stagnation and an expression of indifference towards our democratic deficit; low turnout, low turnover, polarised negativity, distorted results and lack of diversity.
Or they can choose to modernise their election system, by implementing ranked ballots. That would be a vote for innovation, participation and diversity.
We'll be tracking the municipal leaders who pioneer democratic renewal in Ontario. Stay tuned!!
